Mosquito net lets children sleep in peace
Mosquito nets Africa and Asia – gift code OH5
Floride has four children and lives in Bujumbura, Burundi’s largest city. In 2025 she received the gift of a mosquito net from World Outreach Initiatives (WOI), Blythswood’s partner organisation in central Africa. “We heard that some nets were available,” says Floride, who attends a support group for women in a community where HIV remains a significant problem, increasing the risk, severity and mortality of malaria. “I went to collect it from WOI’s clinic. It’s the first time my family have had a mosquito net and it is important to me.
“My children used to get bitten by mosquitos while they slept and then they would become ill with malaria. Now they no longer wake up covered in bites, because I make sure that the net is well installed and leaves no room for insects to enter. I am thankful to the people who gave me this net. It really came at the right time.”
In 2025, WOI distributed 150 nets to low-income households in Burundi, with a further 150 in January 2026.
