“When I opened the shoebox, I saw a beautiful diary with drawings of flowers and a packet of coloured pens. I could not believe that I had something so special just for myself. I’ve always wanted to be able to write down my thoughts and feelings which I’m unable to tell others.

“This diary is more than a gift. It is a way to express everything I cannot say out loud.”

Dream Academy distributes Blythswood’s gift-filled shoeboxes to teenagers in Albania who experience poverty because a parent is in prison. Some live with grandparents, many in isolated and rural parts of the country.

A diary and pens can give an isolated teenager an opportunity to express themselves.
