Twenty-one years after he first joined the organisation, Balazs Csiszer has taken on the role of head of overseas projects for Blythswood Care. His initial involvement was in running the Daniel Centre near Cluj, a residential facility helping young men leaving Romania’s state care system to gain life skills. “The need is still there,” he observes now. “We can offer something to these boys that others cannot.

“Just the other day I was so encouraged when I saw one of our early intake posting on Facebook a birthday message of love to his teenage daughter. It brought home to me how he has achieved family life in a way that was denied to him as a young person.”

With the retirement this year of Finlay Mackenzie, Blythswood’s long-serving head of projects, Balazs is taking on extra responsibilities in Europe, Africa and Asia while continuing to head up Blythswood Romania. He identifies time management and the development of Blythswood’s strategy in regard to partnerships as the challenges he currently faces.

“Partnerships have been Blythswood’s strength,” he says. “We enable partners to fulfil their vision. While becoming more professional I want to keep the flexibility to support them. In Serbia especially, there is potential to do so much more.”
