Milica at the study group: “I was free to ask anything and found the answers helpful”

Christianity Explored in Serbia

At 67 Milica is old enough to remember what life was like in communist, officially atheist, Yugoslavia. But that did not prevent her, as a Serb, from respecting the Christian heritage of her own nation.

“I looked at God and Christianity in a formal way,” she says. “I went to church regularly, I respected Christian customs, but I didn’t have a personal relationship with him. I felt a little lost. I didn’t feel close to God.”

All that changed when Milica was invited to join a weekly group meeting in her home town of Vranje. Christianity Explored has been produced in Serbian by Blythswood Care and is being used by Pastor Dragisa Armus to help people understand basic Christian doctrine.

“I was attracted by the informality of the course,” Milica says. “The book for participants gave me clear guidelines on how to get to know Jesus better and so get closer to God. At the meetings I was free to ask anything and everything, and found the answers helpful.

“Studying the Gospel of Mark in detail, I finally got to know who Jesus is and how I can respond to him. The change in my faith after the course is huge, because know I believe that Jesus is with me, and that I can have a personal relationship with him. He loved me, he died for my sins, and I now believe that he has given me eternal life with him.”
