Supporting pastors and their congregations
Supporting Pastors
Hello Friends
My name is Jovica Gecan, I am married with four children, and I pastor a small church in Ruski Kristur, working primarily amongst the Rusyn people in Northern Serbia. The church was started through the Christianity Explored course, which Blythswood Care translated into Serbian.
In 2020, we adapted our premises to be used as a café, which I run during the week. It’s a place where the community can meet up and we can talk to them about the Lord. The coffee shop/restaurant provides a small income for the work. It also gives myself and my wife an opportunity to engage with the community, whether it be delivering food to houses or talking with customers.
I have a heart for non-believers, to see them come to faith in Jesus. Recently I organised a gathering of missionaries at the centre to encourage, support, and to help build relationships. I have a vision to create a network of missionaries who know how to navigate the cultural landscape of Serbia and the mixed nationalities that make up many of the communities. I’m dreaming of a centre to train missionaries in my own community.
Blythswood Care has had a massive impact on my ministry. Blythswood has made our vision of this centre a reality but there is still much more to do.
I believe there is great need for the Christian message in Serbia. There are around seven million people in Serbia and we are only a very small number of evangelical Christians, definitely less than 1% but probably even less than 10,000 people attend any kind of evangelical church.
We thank God for Blythswood’s Pastor Support programme. It has made a difference to our lives and to our community, giving us the opportunity to share the love of Jesus in our region in Serbia.
Thank you for considering to support a Pastor such as me,
Jovica
Blythswood Care support pastors in different countries, with different needs and expenses. No pastor is fully supported and our aim is to support a pastor until the local fellowship is able to fully fund the ministry.
We aim to support pastors for up to 5 years to allow a pastor to have a full-time ministry where initially up to 40% of required income is provided, reducing on a regular basis until the pastor is funded. We add new pastors as other pastors receive full funding locally. Whatever gift you give will be used to provide regular support to a pastor.
