Helping young mums and mums-to-be
Since the early days of Blythswood’s Shoe Box Appeal – the 1990s – some of the gift-filled boxes have gone to Pro Vita Medica, an organisation in Romania’s Banat region which helps young women to cope with unwanted pregnancy.
When Gabriela gave birth to her first child in December, she was in a relationship but not yet married. Coming from a low-income family and unable to complete her schooling, the support of Pro Vita Medica was important to her.
“Shoeboxes help young mums like Gabriela in a practical way,” says Ernest Valea from Pro Vita Medica. “Shower gel, wet wipes, clothing and towels are all useful. Thank you very much.”
