People returning to Kyiv district happy to be alive

When Alexandra’s parents took their one-year-old daughter back to their home in Borodianka, they were relieved to discover the only damage was shattered windows. Some of their neighbours in the town which is 60km northwest of Kyiv consider that they were lucky. The family had evacuated without injury at the last minute before the Russians invaded in March, and they returned to find that their home – unlike many others in the town – was not completely destroyed.

“Alexandra was very happy to discover a doll in her box,” says shoebox distributor Tanya Shpygunova. “Her parents are very grateful for all the Christmas gifts. After all that has happened in the past year, they are just happy to be alive.”
