Istvan is homeless, living in a small town in eastern Hungary, near the Romanian border. He searches the streets and town square for leftover food during the day. At night he sleeps in the waiting room at the station. Sometimes he is put out and then he has to sleep outside, having nowhere to go.

“Istvan has limited mobility and walks with a cane,” she says. “Some of the people to whom we gave shoeboxes suffer from chronic illnesses, some are disabled and a few are illiterate.”
