Around three quarters of a million people in Sindh province, Pakistan, are identified as Christians. It may seem a large number but is in reality a tiny minority – less than two percent – of the population. And of these, many know next to nothing about the Christian faith.

Sajawal, now 25, was one such. “I was born into a family which was unaware of God’s love and of Jesus’ sacrifice for humanity,” he says. “But when I went to Hyderabad, to college, I found myself with a Christian roommate who patiently answered my questions and shared the transformative love of Jesus.

“I became a believer in Jesus Christ and someone gave me a bible. I kept on reading it and found spiritual strength, peace, comfort and wisdom. And I felt a calling to bring the love of Jesus to the young people in my village who, like me, were growing up unaware of God’s love.

“So I went home and gathered the children and started telling them about a friend called Jesus. There was opposition at first but I carried on and my Sunday School started to grow.

“My college friend told me about Pakistan Sunday School Ministry and I attended their course for teachers. It gave me the opportunity to meet other teachers, and equipped me with valuable methods to engage with children to and communicate effectively.

“I started to use the PSSM curriculum and to intercede for the children. They began to show an interest and many have accepted Jesus Christ as their saviour. Now there are 82 children in my class. I am grateful for the opportunities which God has provided and pray that I might continue to be a vessel for his love and guidance in my own community.”
