Marko’s disabilities make him highly dependent on his mother
Winter items help families with special needs
Marko, now 11 years old, was born deaf and is unable to speak. These disabilities leave him more than usually dependent on his mother, Jelena, who as a single parent, cares for him alone. They are members of an association in their city of Kragujevac, central Serbia, set up to help people living with this type of disability.
At an association meeting in December they were presented with gift-filled boxes from Blythswood’s Shoe Box Appeal. “Marko and Jelena were so pleased with the hat and scarf,” says David Armus, who directs the work of Blythswood Serbia. “These items were high quality and perfect for winter days.
“They could not afford to buy such things for themselves as they depend completely on social assistance which is barely sufficient for basic day-to-day things.”
