Working family turn to foodbank

The harsh reality of Britain’s cost of living crisis means that people in work are likely to be referred to foodbanks. That was the experience of Paula and David* helped recently by Blythswood’s Southeast Edinburgh Foodbank.

“They both have jobs and they are claiming the benefits to which they are entitled,” says foodbank coordinator Jodie Hope. “But with three school-aged children they find that they simply don’t have sufficient income to reach the end of the month.

“Paula said that other employees at her workplace were experiencing similar problems. She and her husband seemed relieved to be able to sit and talk through their situation over a cuppa and we pointed them in the direction of further advice. They were so grateful to go away with a food parcel which would keep their family going for several days.”
