Gifts help family of field workers
This little log-built house is home to Ariana and her three brothers, Onisim, Marian and Remus. It is the last house in a lane which looks out over the flat, fertile fields of Bihor county, western Romania. The children’s parents both take seasonal employment as agricultural labourers but it’s hard work, low-paid and insecure. “The family is one of the poorest in a poor area,” says Dan Hurrelbrink who delivered Blythswood shoeboxes in December.
For young people growing up in relative poverty, every item on a shoebox list is useful – clothing, toiletries, stationery, sweets.
