Kudzai in her school uniform: her ambition is to train in social work
School fees and food aid help Kudzai to make the grade
A girl in Zimbabwe who was at risk of dropping out of education just seven years ago has reached the lower 6th form in high school and is studying hard to get to university.
Kudzai, now 17, was still in primary school when her father abandoned the family. Her mother, working at a market stall, struggled to provide for the basic needs of her three children.
Stephen Damuputirai, director of Streams of Hope, was asked to visit the family who lived in a low-income neighbourhood of Harare.
“With support from Blythswood Care for fees and uniforms, we were able to make sure that Kudzai finished primary and went on to high school,” he says. “We have also provided the family with maize from time to time, to prevent their malnutrition.
“Despite her initial setbacks, Kudzai has thrived at school. She achieved impressive grades in nine O levels and is now concentrating on a combination of Arts subjects. Her ambition is to get a degree in Social Work.
“Your assistance really has transformed this girl’s life.”
