Sharing Christ with children in Pakistan

Erum Gill is a school teacher in Punjab Province, Pakistan – a province in which there is estimated to be about 2.5 million Christians. She explains why she decided to start a Sunday School and how training provided by a Blythswood partner organisation has helped her.

“I noticed that the children in my area spent their Sunday playing in the streets. God burdened my heart to start a Sunday school. I began five years ago with just 12 children. By God’s grace the number has steadily grown since then.

“However, I realised I lacked proper guidance and training. While I used Bible stories to help the children learn about God, I felt uncertain about how to engage them in a meaningful way. Last year a friend told me about Pakistan Sunday School Ministry. To my surprise there wasn’t any registration fee.

“The three-month programme was incredibly engaging, using art and creative methods to teach. Training was both online and in-person and this mix made it possible for me to attend as my job leaves me little time to travel.

“The team taught us to be curious and to foster curiosity among young people. Today’s generation is different from ours. We must share Christ with them in relevant and creative ways, listening to their needs and letting them share their problems.

“The most impactful part of training was learning how to teach children to pray. Now I have 33 children in my Sunday school class. Some of the teenagers have stepped up to serve alongside me as volunteers. It’s been my joy to pass on my knowledge and skills to them. I’m thankful to Pakistan Sunday School Ministry for equipping me to serve God and my community.”
